Nasi Goreng

Nasi Goreng is an indonesian style fried rice that you normally have for breakfast! Yes indeed, fried rice with Egg for breakfast… We on the other hand prefer to have Nasi Goreng as a main meal and so we have it with Prawns or Chicken (but still include the egg!). You can make your own Nasi Goreng paste at home, however we mainly have this dish with leftover rice, and so a Jar of Nasi Goreng from the back of the fridge is generally what we use.

The beauty of this dish is its rather quick and simple to make. The trick is to have pre-cooked or left over rice which is cold. You simply fry the rice with the paste and add your choice of accompanying ingredients such as chicken, prawns, vegetables and eggs.

We like to make a simple plain omlette, roll it up and slice it into the Nasi Goreng. A fried egg works well too. There is no specific science with this dish and it is a case of add and taste. The Nasi Goreng paste add flavour and heat, soy sauce add chilli and some palm sugar brings the flavours together.
